Req Number: 24072 Division: Earth Sciences Department: Geochemistry Be a Part of Something Great The Geothermal Program, Earth Sciences Division, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) invites applications for a postdoctoral research scientist. The position is funded by the Department of Energy's Office of Renewable Energy, Geothermal Technology Program. We are seeking geoscientists with expertise in geophysics, geochemistry or hydrogeology and a strong interest in advancing technologies for clean renewable geothermal energy. The position offers an excellent environment for working with a highly skilled interdisciplinary team and will require strong motivation and excellent oral and written communication skills. Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory is a renowned center of scientific expertise in the many facets of energy related fundamental and applied science. The goal of the Earth Science Division's Geothermal Program is to use an integrated approach to understand the occurrence, creation, evolution and management of natural and enhanced geothermal systems. The Geothermal Program integrates the expertise of three core areas: • Geophysics: computational geophysics, rock physics and coupled dynamics, hydro-geophysics, subsurface imaging and characterization, measurement and analysis of earthquake mechanisms, computational mechanics and remote sensing. • Geochemistry: molecular geochemistry, nanogeoscience, isotope geochemistry, reaction transport modeling, and simulation of coupled thermal, hydrological, mechanical, and chemical processes. • Hydrogeology: multiphase flow in fractured rock, development of predictive models for coupled thermal, hydrological, and geomechanical processes. Outstanding candidates with expertise in any of the three core areas are invited to apply. As a Postdoc you will: • Conduct research in one of the three core areas. The research will focus on fundamental earth processes for the development of innovative geothermal energy technologies related to exploration, resource characterization, resource enhancement and/or resource management. The candidate is expected to interact with and draw from the expertise found within the three scientific core areas. • Prepare research publications, both oral and written. Communicate research efforts in group meetings and participation in professional activities, as appropriate. Collaborate with scientists, graduate students and other members of the various core research groups. Qualifications • PhD within the last two years in geophysics, geochemistry, hydrology, hydrogeology, or a related field. A self-motivating spirit, independent attitude and the ability to communicate and coordinate efforts among multiple groups. Ability to communicate results, both oral and written. • A background or experience in geothermal energy technologies is highly desired.
