Description:POSITION OVERVIEW:Under minimal supervision, performs a variety of routine and non-routine tasks in support of the Hydrogeology professional staff within the SNWA Program Staff. Work assignments may be in the office and/or at field sites. A willingness to travel is expected. May act in a lead capacity as required. Possesses a basic understanding of surface-water and groundwater hydraulic and measurement techniques. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs routine measurements of stage and discharge under a variety of field conditions. Observes and notes hydraulic or environmental conditions. Computes and checks surface water records. Performs routine field water-quality measurements such as water temperatures, specific conductance, pH, dissolved oxygen and alkalinity. Prepares and ships samples for lab analysis. Performs installation, maintenance, servicing, and troubleshooting of sensing, recording and communications equipment (GOES downlink, telemetry equipment using radio or telephone lines, etc.). Tests, calibrates, repairs, and modifies control and instrumentation systems at on-site locations under general supervision. Assignments are undertaken independently on a regular basis Assists in construction and removal of gages and supporting structures. Assists in establishing vertical and horizontal datums. Flags high water marks and documents their reliability. Assists in performing surface geophysical tests (AMT). Prepares summaries, data logs and basic data reports of field activities. Prepares required field and office reports of various activities and findings. Initiates basic reports and/or establishes and maintains logs and records. Performs routine measurements of depth-to-water in monitor, exploratory, and production wells under a variety of field conditions using e-tapes, steel tapes, pressure transducers, and other water-level measuring equipment. Observes and accurately documents water-level and other hydraulic conditions at the wells. Performs data entry and QA/QC of surface-water and groundwater data. Operates a Parsons vehicle as a driver. A valid state driver?s license is required. The incumbent will be expected to lift and carry a 100-pound weight over 50 yards, work in hot and cold weather conditions, and work in inclement weather conditions for extended periods of time. Travel to remote field locations will be required, with travel over night from 10 to 12 nights per month. Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate. PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Minimum 4-year degree in a science curriculum, hydrology, geology or a closely related field. 3-5 years of related work experience. SKILLS/COMPETENCIES: Familiarity with typical Hydrology assignments and responsibilities, as well as tasks and testing techniques related to operations.
