The Tidewater Regional Office, Virginia Water Protection Program (VWPP), seeks a highly qualified candidate to review applications for individual and general VWPP permits for surface waters including tidal and nontidal wetlands, and to make recommendations for the issuance of these permit authorizations in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. The position will inspect and manage permits to support compliance, enforcement, and remediation activities within established timeframes. Demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities should include: Ability to communicate and negotiate effectively orally and in writing, comprehensive knowledge of aquatic and wetland ecology, hydrology, botany and soil science, wetland delineation and mitigation procedures and pollution and erosion control practices. Considerable knowledge of federal and state wetlands laws, regulations, policies and procedures. Considerable skill in teamwork, time and project management and computer operations to include word processing and database management. Demonstrated ability to successfully manage and complete environmental functions, apply environmental principles, analyze and solve problems, evaluate technical issues and made sound decisions. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with diverse groups. Degree in environmental science or engineering and/or equivalent training/experience preferred. A valid driver?s license and some overnight travel may be required. Certification as a Professional Wetland Scientist or Wetland Delineator is preferred, but not required. Previous related experience, graduation from an accredited university with major course work in a related field, and training in wetland identification and delineation is preferred, but not required.
