JOB DESCRIPTION:
Purpose of Position:
Why does the job exist?
This position will be responsible for performing hydrologic and hydro-geologic investigations for water rights administration, adjudication, interstate stream compact compliance, subdivision review and other water planning and management functions. The position will also develop and utilize hydrologic models to access the impacts of new and pending surface/groundwater diversions on the hydrologic system; provide technical support for agency water resources management activities; participate in the preparation of new rules and regulations/guidelines; and produce technical data, memorandum and reports, exhibits, expert reports, interrogatory questions/responses, and oral expert testimony.

How does it get done?
The incumbent in this position will perform the required hydrologic and hydro-geologic analysis and evaluations that assist in management and in the litigation of the State's water resources.

Who are the customers?
This job is done in support of the Office of the State Engineer, and State of New Mexico (Administering the use and development of water resources within the State while protecting existing water rights within the State).

The Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate has experience with the following:
Knowledge and education of the laws and equations that govern water flow in saturated and unsaturated porous media.
Developing hydrologic and hydro-geologic analysis using USGS (United States Geological Survey) groundwater/surface water flow models particularly MODFLOW.
Laws and equations that govern well hydraulics.
Computer programming and computer software.
Laws and equations that govern surface water flow.

Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.

This is a pay band EF.

CLASSIFICATION DESCRIPTION:
Water Resources Professional III

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture Science, Hydrology, Geology, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Watershed Management, Physics, Natural Science, Physical Science, Life Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Forestry/Forest Science, Conservation Science, Wildlife Science Emergency Management or Engineering and six (6) years of relevant experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling ten (10) years may substitute for the required education
and experience.

Employment Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer, phone, xerox machine, fax machine and calculator usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Travel may be required including out-of-
state travel that may extend for several days per event. Work may be required at alternate work sites.
