Why does the job exist?

This position will:

Perform hydrologic and hydro-geologic investigations for water rights administration, adjudications, interstate stream compact compliance, subdivision review and other water planning and management functions.
Develop and utilize hydrologic models to access the impacts of new and pending surface and groundwater diversions on the hydrologic system.
Provide technical support for agency water resources management activities.
Participate in the preparation of new rules and regulations and guidelines.
Produce technical data, memorandum and reports, exhibits, expert reports, interrogatory questions/ responses, and oral expert testimony.
How does it get done?

The incumbent will perform the required hydrologic and hydro-geologic analyses and evaluations that assist in the management and litigation of the State's water resources.
Who are the customers?

This position will serve the Office of the State Engineer, State of New Mexico (Administering the use and development of water resources within the State while protecting existing water rights within the State).
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have experience with the following:

Physical laws and equations that govern the water flow in the saturated and unsaturated porous media.
Developing hydrologic and hydro-geologic analyses using the USGS groundwater/ surface water flow models particularly MODFLOW.
Physical laws and equations that govern well hydraulics.
Computer programming and computer software.
Physical laws and equations that govern water surface flow.
Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture Science, Hydrology, Geology, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Watershed Management, Physics, Natural Science, Physical Science, Life Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Forestry/Forest Science, Conservation Science, Wildlife Science Emergency Management or Engineering and six (6) years of relevant experience.
